About
A Japan-side editorial function, not another layer of translation.
mitate helps global teams make better decisions about how their business should be understood in Japan.
mitate
Editorial judgment between a proven product and a new market.
The name mitate comes from the Japanese idea of seeing something through another frame. That is the work here: not making a foreign product “look Japanese,” but looking at it from the Japanese market and deciding what needs a different frame.
mitate is led by Taichi Kurawaka, a Japan-based bilingual editor with seven years of experience across Japanese and English content, editing and localization.
What mitate owns
- Japan category framing

The focus is not on translating more words. It is on making better decisions about what Japan needs to hear.
