Japan Editorial Review

Before you translate your website, find out what should change for Japan.

What the Review decides

The Review is for teams that already have a working global product and message, but need to know how that story should be framed, ordered and supported in Japan before spending on a full localization.

  • How will Japan categorize us?
  • Which value proposition should lead?
  • What proof needs to move earlier?
  • What should stay global?
  • What needs more explanation?
  • What should we not translate yet?

Common questions

What the Review is — and is not.

Is this a translation service?

Not primarily. Translation may be part of later work, but the Review comes first to decide what deserves to be translated, rewritten, reordered or explained differently for Japan.

Do you provide full Japan market-entry consulting?

No. mitate focuses on positioning, messaging, website and content decisions. Legal setup, sales operations, channel development and regulatory work should be handled by specialists in those areas.

Do we need a Japanese website already?

No. The Review is often most useful before a Japanese site is built. We can work from your global site, product deck and launch plan.

Can you review an existing Japanese site?

Yes. We can review whether the site is correctly prioritized, credible and easy to understand in Japan — not only whether the Japanese is grammatically correct.

Can you write the Japanese copy after the Review?

Yes. If the Review identifies a clear direction, the next engagement can cover a Messaging Sprint or Website Adaptation.

Why not just hire a translator?

A translator can accurately change the language. The editorial question is whether the original category, message, proof, page order and CTA should remain the same in Japan at all.
